Winter

Winter is perhaps the season most associated with Siberia, but also the least travelled season in Siberia. The problem is that many people are put off by the extreme levels of cold. However, you can spend all day outdoors in ANY temperature if you just have the right clothing. As they say in Siberia, “A northerner is not someone who does not feel the cold. It is someone who knows how to dress warm,” and “There is no such thing as bad weather. Only bad clothing.”

If you invest in or rent some very warm clothes you will be able to experience the spectacular winter wonderland that

is Lake Baikal from November to April. Many people buy their cold-weather clothing second hand on eBay then sell it after their trip. This minimises costs and enables you to travel comfortably. Only with the right clothing can you enjoy Baikal’s towering mountains and the snow-laden taiga forests in winter. However, once fully equipped you can experience the adrenaline rush of snowmobiling, reindeer sledding, skiing or photographing in this otherworldly environment.
